December 3, 2011

Ah, Sam.  You are a funny guy!  This is my attempt to remember some of the crazy stuff you do.
We had a great day today - Saturdays usually are.  You get the attention of both your mom and your dad all day, and you take full advantage of it.  Here is a quick summary of your day...
Wake up, holler until I come to get you.  You turn around and point at your blankies and grunt until I pick them up, then turn around and point at your teddy until I pick that up, too.  Then, point to the door and say, "milk."  So, with my hands full of Sam and blanket and teddy, we pull up the window shade, turn off your fan, and head to the kitchen to get your milk.  35 seconds in the microwave.  You "help" me make coffee, which means I try to grind beans and pour water while holding onto my large and precarious load.  Then we head to the couch.  You hand me your pipe, grab your milk, chug it down, then point at your pipe and grunt until I give it back.  After too few snuggles, you are ready to go.  It's time to drive your school bus, point at the ornaments on the Christmas tree, and say, "dada, dada, dada" over and over again until your dad gets up and you get to yell "dada" and run over to greet him.  Mornings are good.
At some point in the morning, you stand on the kitchen stool and scoop cereal from one container to another. Scooping is a favorite activity for you at the moment.
We take the dog for a walk - you ride in your stroller.  First we put on your hat, mittens, coat, shoes.  With every article of clothing that you put on, you have to watch mom and dad put on the same thing.  You pat your head with your hat on, and then have to pat ours.  As we walk, you yell "aaaaagggg" whenever you see a flag.  And "bubba" means pumpkin, and possibly Christmas lights, too.  You "woof" at all the dogs.
Naptime comes, and when you wake up, we repeat the blankie/teddy/milk/snuggle routine of the morning.  Then it's back to driving, scooping, riding on dada, pointing to all of our tummies and saying "baby" since you believe that everyone's tummy has a baby in it, and not just mine.
You have assigned one of your toy balls to dada, and one is for you.  You've assigned one of your trucks to dada, and your school bus is for you.  Dada is your favorite playmate.  Mama is who you want to get your milk and put you to bed and snuggle with.  You are a master block tower builder.  You can spend hours in the sandbox by yourself just dumping sand from one container to another.  You love to stomp, spin, skid, dance, and push your music button that plays the alphabet song.  You say cheese, ball, owl, and a few other hard to decipher words.  You can make a whole lot of animal noises.  You have just started to realize that you enjoy entertaining the crowd.
Grandma and grandpa's "pool" is one of your new favorite activities - you sit on someone's lap and dump water from one scoop to another for HOURS!  And throw whales, and watch your cousins jump around in their tubes.  This last time, after a trip to grandpa and grandma's, you came home and walked into our bathroom one day, tried to climb in the tub, looked at me like, "hello lady, help me out here," and said "POOL!"  So, you got to go in our "pool" and dump water from one scoop to another.
We just had a roundabout constructed down the street and spent many hours watching the construction.  Dump trucks, diggers, bulldozers...  You have a construction book that you LOVE reading - the cement mixer has a blankie just like you.  And you wear your bulldozer pajamas every night possible.  We got you to big tonka trucks and some construction jams for Christmas, so we're hoping that your love for all things construction lasts for a little while!
We just finished putting some carpet in the basement so you'd have a new place to play in our house.  You love the carpet, and often just roll around and wrestle with us on it.  You make the stuffed animals go down the slide and say "wee" as they go.
You do so many things that make our day happier.  Then, you get a little tired.  You read a book with dada.  I change your diaper and put on your jams.  I get to brush your teeth first, the it's Sam's turn.  You gnaw on that toothbrush like it's beef jerky.  Then you go find dada and get your pipe, your blankies, your teddy.  When I come out of the bathroom, you grab all your goods and lean my way.  You give dada a kiss (or turn your head away while he kisses you!), we wave to everything in the room and say goodnight.  We head to your room, I pull the shade and turn on the fan, you turn out your light.  We say our prayer, then I put the bundle that is you, your blankies, your teddy into your bed and cover you up with your big blanket.  That's it, the day is done.  What an easy little guy you are to hang out with all day.
Now hopefully your dad and I can remember some of the goofy things you do every day.  Because you probably won't stay this goofy and easy forever.  :)
